Drones are the latest craze among kids and their parents alike. Many people have tremendous fun flying these gadgets on the beach or over cities and parks. If they attach a video camera to their drones, they can capture magnificent aerial views, thus being able to produce cool videos to share on their social media accounts or on YouTube. However, there’s a long way from the first time of touching a drone to flying it like a pro. You need to spend some time until you are going to master all commands of your device.
Although it seems easy, maintaining the direction during the flight is quite tricky. Quadcopters, for instance, with their four rotors, are symmetrical, thus being very hard to know which is their front side. This is why some users apply a red dot on the front, so that they always know the direction of their drone while flying it.
Calibration is another thing that might cause problems. When you first fly your drone, you have to start from a surface that’s perfectly parallel to the ground. If you don’t do this, your drone is going to be very hard to control afterwards. Anyway, if you follow the enclosed instructions and watch a few explanatory videos online, you should be fine. Flying a drone isn’t rocket science, after all. It only takes a little exercise and a lot of time to practice after you get the gist of it.
The flying experience depends also on the type of drone. This is why buying a drone shouldn’t be an impulse process. You need to understand first the differences between the various types of devices, the features that are the most useful and the consequences of choosing one multi rotor gadget or another. If you have friends who already own drones, it would be a good idea to ask them about their experience, about their likes and dislikes and about the overall score they would give their device. Also ask if you can try to fly it, so that you can decide whether you would be happy with a similar model or not.
You also need to be aware that cameras are usually sold separately. Besides, you need to make sure the gadget you buy has the special camera mount and can withstand that additional weight. If it becomes too heavy for the motors, your drone may never fly. This is why you have to inform yourself on all these issues before purchasing anything.
Last but not least, you have to decide whether you want to buy all parts separately and build the quadcopter yourself, or you’d be better off with a ready-to-fly model you can use as soon as you take it out of the box. Building your own gadget gives you the advantage of being able to choose its various elements. Besides, it can be a cool DIY project to do together with your kids, if you have any. On the other hand, if you aren’t a big fan of such projects, you should get a ready-made drone and fly it for fun, with or without your children.
